The automotive sector has been using composite materials in the automotive sector since the 1950’s. The 80’s and 90’s saw a substantial increase the use of carbon fibre and fibreglass; products that were lighter and stronger than traditional materials such as steel and aluminium.
Today commercial vehicles like the BMW 7 Series, Polestar 1 use predominantly carbon fibre materials to improve the cars performance efficiency. Even the F1 have wholly embraced this manufacturing shift and are leading the innovation in this arena, ever since McLaren introduced the MP4/1 in 1981. We’ve also seen a trend of fibre-reinforced polymers used to add extra protection to army defence vehicles and equipment.
